How to Calculate Cumulative College GPA
Your cumulative GPA is the weighted average of all your semester GPAs, where each semester is weighted by its credit hours.
The Formula
Cumulative GPA = (Sum of GPA × Credits) ÷ Total Credits
Worked Example
Student completed 4 semesters:
| Semester | GPA | Credits | Quality Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2023 | 3.2 | 15 | 48.0 |
| Spring 2024 | 3.5 | 16 | 56.0 |
| Fall 2024 | 3.7 | 15 | 55.5 |
| Spring 2025 | 3.8 | 14 | 53.2 |
| Total | — | 60 | 212.7 |
Cumulative GPA = 212.7 ÷ 60 = 3.55
GPA Requirements by Goal
| Goal | Typical GPA Requirement |

How Later Semesters Affect Your GPA Less
The more credits you have, the harder it is to change your GPA. With 60 credits, a perfect 4.0 semester of 15 credits will only raise your GPA by about 0.15 points.
